With the wide-scale proliferation of the world wide web, customers are demanding more flexible, open, and cloud-based WAN technologies rather than installing proprietary or specialized WAN technology that often involves expensive fixed circuits or proprietary hardware.

Our Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) offerings, for example, can be used to improve and secure internet connectivity, making it competitive with more expensive legacy WAN technologies such as Leased/Dedicated circuits, Fiber, T-1, or MPLS. In some cases, our software-defined network (SDN/ SD-WAN) technology uses Internet broadband connections to replace more expensive solutions. Virtualization technology can apply security and virtual private networking (VPN) technology to broadband internet connections, making them more secure.

We also have the advantage of potentially removing expensive routing hardware by provisioning connectivity and services via the cloud. Our emerging Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) technology can also be more flexible. For example, because this SDN/ SD-WAN connectivity can be controlled through cloud software, a customer might be able to scale up or ‘burst’ connectivity during times of peak demand. They can accomplish this without having to deal with the ISP and having to wait till they get their act together or charge you extra for any changes or upgrades.

Customer Focus: Cost, Reliability, Security
The main goal of our Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) technology is to deliver a business-class, secure, and simple cloud-enabled WAN connection with as much open and software-based technology as possible. This can be used to deliver basic WAN connectivity, or for premium business services such as VPN, WAN optimization, and applications delivery control (ADC).

Every ISP is going after the potential in the Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) market which is likely in billions of dollars. Many of these providers have slightly different approaches to the market. For example, Silver Peak has focused on accelerating Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications in the cloud, Pertino and VeloCloud are going after branch-office connectivity using Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) while Aryaka has built a global network so that companies can use WAN as a Network-as-a-Service (NaaS). What started as a solution for branch-office and data-center WAN connectivity requiring less proprietary equipment, appears to now be expanding into a wide range of Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) offerings and technologies including VPN, security, WAN optimization, NaaS and application policy control.
Traditional WAN: Too Slow, Too Expensive
Between video conferencing, streaming, and cloud storage, modern-day internet applications are hungrier for bandwidth than ever. However, adding bandwidth via Lease/Dedicated/ MPLS connection is expensive, so you find yourself stuck between ever-increasing bandwidth requirements and an IT budget that can’t keep up. To solve these problems, we would like to introduce a useful Software Defined Network (SDN/ SD-WAN) technology: hybrid WAN. This technology enables you to achieve all the reliability of a private link without breaking the bank.
Enter Hybrid WAN
Hybrid WAN is a private link architecture supplemented by other, more affordable connections. Your private link and other connections are joined together into a single logical MPLS/Dedicated/Cloud Leased connection. When sending a session through the encrypted tunnel, our SD WAN software will disassemble the session into encrypted packets. The packets are then sent through the available WAN links where they travel to the destination separately.
This technology is transport-agnostic, so you can achieve WAN virtualization by supplementing your connectivity with xDSL, cable, fiber, and LTE. This solution can be used as an MPLS/Lease/dedicated circuit supplement. Simply connect all your links into the WAN ports, and they will come together to form a single SD-WAN connection that is fast, reliable, secure, and up to 75% more affordable.
